THE NEXT LEVEL: CONNECTING STUDENTS TO COLLEGIATE ESPORTS OPPORTUNITIES
November 6, 2025 by Daniel Castaneda
On October 13th, Grow Ada hosted The Next Level: Esports Connect, a first-of-its-kind event in Ada that brought together collegiate esports coaches and community members to discuss the growing impact of gaming in higher education.
Held at Pontotoc Technology Center, the event featured an engaging panel discussion with Cody Soden (East Central University), Matthew Czapla (Rose State College), and Steven Harris (Southeastern Oklahoma State University). Together, the coaches shared insights into their esports programs, including how students can get involved, what the recruitment process looks like, and the variety of scholarship opportunities available for competitive gamers.
The discussion went beyond gameplay — exploring how esports programs are driving team building, leadership development, and career pathways in areas like technology, marketing, and event management. Each coach highlighted how their program integrates student engagement, academic performance, and technical skill development to prepare players for success both inside and outside the arena.
Esports continues to grow rapidly as an academic and athletic opportunity, with more colleges investing in facilities, coaching staff, and scholarships to attract talent. Events like The Next Level showcase the ways in which gaming is transforming education and offering new ways for students to pursue their passions while earning a degree. Grow Ada’s goal in hosting this event was to connect local students and educators with collegiate programs, helping them understand how esports can open doors to new career and scholarship pathways.
